Project Guidelines
In this project, I was to design a billboard using only Photoshop. I had to use at least four images and use either the overlay feature or double exposure. The billboard design then had to be placed on a billboard location.
Process
The issue I chose to cover was shark finning, so I thought a clever and catchy way to spread awareness about the problem was to have the billboard design parallel the original Jaws poster. The font is even the same typeface used for the movie poster!
I first looked for an image of a man "yelling upwards" and came across this stock photo, which I edited to remove the plaid shirt and the watermark. I found images of water and used content aware filling to lengthen it to my desired height. I added the shark fin and the shark soon after and included a gradient overlay to add some depth to the water. The final product has a slight painted filter to resemble the Jaws poster.
I chose this piece for my strongest use of visual composition because of it's strong incorporation of symmetry and balance to create visual unity. Everything is centered and spaced accordingly to create visual harmony between each element. With the colors there was meant to be a lot of visual balance; it has a color scheme that starts with white, then red, blue, then red and white again for the best use of visual unity.
